A Competitive Wireless Industry will Benefit Economy and Consumers

Washington, DC – Today the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation held a hearing titled, “Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission.”  CCA – The Competitive Carriers Association thanks the Committee for the hearing and FCC Commissioners for their testimonies.  CCA was encouraged to hear the Commissioners acknowledge the importance of competition in the wireless industry, which will benefit the economy and consumers.

In a statement on the hearing, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, “I thank the Committee for holding the hearing and am very pleased that each of the Commissioners clearly understands the importance of competition in the wireless industry and the benefits to consumers.  As Chairman Genachowski stated, a ‘dupoloy is not the ideal outcome,’ and a competitive wireless marketplace will bring enormous benefits to consumers and the economy.”

Berry continued, “As Commissioner Clyburn mentioned in her testimony, a light regulatory touch may be necessary to promote meaningful competition.  With a competitive marketplace, everyone wins, and I look forward to working with the Commission and all policymakers to ensure competition is restored.”
