CCA Encourages Spectrum Working Group to Focus on Interoperability

Washington, DC – Today, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce announced a bipartisan Federal Spectrum Working Group to examine how the federal government can use the nation’s spectrum more efficiently.  CCA – The Competitive Carriers Association applauds the Committee for its focus on spectrum, a finite, taxpayer-owned resource, and encourages the Spectrum Working Group to strongly consider the numerous benefits of interoperability and data roaming as it examines ways to maximize spectrum efficiency and utilization.  In focusing on reallocating spectrum currently allocated to the federal government, CCA urges the Working Group to particularly look at frequencies, such as the 1755-1780 band, that promote international harmonization and are located within LTE ecosystems.

In a statement, CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry said, “I commend the Committee for understanding the enormous impact spectrum has on the economy and American taxpayers; however, it is absolutely critical for the Spectrum Working Group to consider interoperability as it continues its research.  Without interoperability, many competitive carriers will continue to be prevented from building out the spectrum they currently own, which means less investment, fewer jobs and less choice for consumers.”

Berry continued, “As the Spectrum Working Group moves forward, I hope they will seriously consider ways to identify spectrum, both in the federal government and commercial sector, which can be tapped to restore competition in the wireless market.”
