The US ranks far down the list globally in the availability of broadband, and the spectrum crunch threatens to be a roadblock to the innovative businesses that are the heart of job creation and economic growth in this country. But the issue is not whether we have enough airwaves to meet coming needs — it’s more about who controls the usable parts of the spectrum map and how to make the best use of it for critical services and economic growth. This sets up a regulatory arial dogfight among wireless companies, broadcasters and federal agencies for much of the contested prime spectral real estate.
On Nov. 30, CQ Roll Call’s veteran technology reporter Keith Perine will moderate a panel discussion with some of the most knowledgeable and influential government and industry officials at the epicenter of this issue.
These experts will discuss the competing demands and the best solutions to ensuring broadband supply for a world of infinite demand. This critical challenge is already under debate across Washington, from the halls of Congress and the deliberations of the congressional “supercommittee” to the corridors of the FCC. How lawmakers and the FCC respond to the competing demands of businesses, innovators, federal agencies will be critically important to — and whether the wireless broadband explosion will continue unabated or hit a spectrum roadblock
